NVC v5.8 includes quite a few changes beneath the surface. In addition to an improved product, this version also serves the task of building a bridge between NVC version 5 and NVC version 6, which is due in the near future.
- The Configuration Editor has been modified to reflect the change from a module-based to a more product-oriented interface using a configuration tree. The NVC 5 modular orientation is not abandoned, but the NVC v5.8 approach has simplified the configuration of Norman Virus Control.
- NVC v5.8 introduces a closer integration between Norman Program Manager (Zanda) and Internet Update (NIU). In addition, the tray icon is now a part of Norman Program Manager. It was formerly known by a separate process (Nymse).
- The new tray icon indicatora cogis displayed when the installation is being automatically updated in the background. The mouse-over hints for the yellow warning triangle, indicate that the On-access scanner is not running, or that a computer restart is needed to complete an update. The mouse-over hints for the red symbol, indicating that the installation is not working as intended with your configuration options, is also improved in this version.
- Those with a detailed knowledge of earlier NVC versions will notice that the file- and folder structure has changed. In earlier versions all modules resided within the ...\Norman\Nvc\Bin folder. In Norman Virus Control v5.8 most products and plug-ins have their own %product%\bin folder. Common components and Administration tools reside within ...\Norman\Bin.
